HC Deb 04 June 1919 vol 116 c2044W
Captain R. TERRELL

asked the Homo Secretary if he will issue to the public in concise form a précis of the privileged position of the Metropolitan Police in respect of pay, pension, provident fund and conditions of service?

Mr. SHORTT

I will consider whether effect can be given to the hon. and gallant Member's suggestion. Particulars of pay, promotion and pensions and other information as to the advantages of the police service are published in a pamphlet for the guidance of intending recruits which is very widely distributed. I will send the hon. Member a copy. It requires revision in some respects, and of course the rates of pay and pension will shortly be increased. The provident fund is an association for mutual benefit administered by the members themselves; it has not hitherto been under any official control, nor has it been subsidised from police funds.
