HC Deb 11 December 1919 vol 122 cc1651-2W
Mr. BENNETT

asked the Secretary of State for India if he has been informed of a moment in Mauritius for the transfer of that island to the French flag; and has he any information to the effect that this movement, which is believed to be encouraged by certain large employers of labour, is resented by the people of Indian origin, who form a large majority of the labouring population of Mauritius?

Lieut.-Colonel AMERY

A movement of the kind was set on foot some months ago by certain individuals, but it attracted very little support, and was repudiated by the great majority of all classes in Mauritius. No importance need be attached to it.
