HC Deb 08 December 1919 vol 122 c916W
Sir M. DOCKRELL

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury how many applications have been received by the Civil Service Commissioners from men wishing to compete at the examination for junior appointments, intermediate clerks, to be held on 6th January, 1920; for how many of these appointments are there vacancies in Ireland and for how many in Great Britain; and will the same standard of efficiency which was required at the examination held in January, 1915, be expected, having regard to the difference in age limits between the examination of 1915 and that of 1920?

Mr. BALDWIN

One hundred and twenty-six candidates have entered for the competitive examination beginning on 6th January next for junior appointments. It cannot yet be stated how many vacancies will be filled from the result of the examination or in what Departments. It is not proposed to raise the standard of examination on account of the age limits for this competition being higher than those for the competition held in January, 1915.
