§ Dr. WORSFOLDasked the President of the Board of Education whether he is aware that the Incorporated Association of Assistant Masters has declared strongly in favour of a national scale of salaries for teachers, and that other organised and influential bodies of teachers have done the same; and will he promise that the whole matter will receive early consideration, in view of the present unsatisfactory position?
§ Mr. FISHERI am aware of the resolution of the Incorporated Association of Assistant Masters, to which the hon. Member refers, but I have no evidence that it represents the opinion of the teaching profession as a whole. I will, of course, consider any representations which may be made to me in the matter, but I cannot pledge myself to take action in the direction suggested. There is a good deal to be said against as well as for it.
