Mr. TYSON WILSONasked the President of the Board of Education whether his attention has been called to the fact that admission to school has had to be refused to children of school age in Croydon owing to the continued delay in evacuating the six council schools, with accommodation for 5,000 children, which have been lent by the council to the War Office for use as military hospitals; and what action he proposes to take with the view to these schools being restored to their proper use?
§ Mr. FISHERAccording to my information only four elementary schools at Croydon are in military occupation, and these have been used as military hospitals since 1915. My attention has not been called to the fact that any children of school age have been refused admission to elementary schools in consequence of this occupation. The Board are in constant communication with the War Office regarding the release of schools in military occupation, and the hon Member may rest assured that I shall do my utmost to secure their evacuation as soon as possible.
