HC Deb 03 April 1919 vol 114 cc1415-6W
Mr. HOPKINS

asked the Secretary of State for War if officers and men whose homes are in South America find shipping accommodation for themselves and pay their own fare for the return journey will be entitled to a refund of the amount which the Government would have paid had the Government provided the accommodation?

Mr. FORSTER

Officers and men whose claims to repatriation are approved are allowed to elect for an immediate or a deferred passage. If they elect for a deferred passage they are informed that passages may not be available for some time subsequent to the date notified by them as that on which they will be prepared to embark from the United Kingdom, and that no allowance whatever will be granted whilst awaiting passage. If an officer chooses to make his own arrangements, no refund can be given.
