HALLasked She Secretary of State for War whether the rank and duties of the various officers who have been employed as assistant directors of Army printing and stationery services with the British Expeditionary Force in France are similar one to another; what is the number of such officers; whether they have received the same pay and allowances for performing identical duties and, if not, the grounds for any distinction that has been drawn; whether any of them are Civil servants; and whether they will all be entitled to receive a gratuity for their Army service, and if this will be on the same basis for all such officers?
§ Mr. FORSTERThere are two assistant directors in France. Their duties are similar, one of these is paid on the special scale laid down for temporary officers in the stationery service. The other is a Civil servant who was detached to help start this Department at the beginning of the War. He is, paid as a Civil servant with a daily detention allowance. No gratuity is at present authorised for either officer, but the question of granting some form of gratuity is under consideration.
