HC Deb 21 March 1918 vol 104 c1179W
Commander EYRES-MONSELL

asked the Prime Minister whether he will consider the advisability of recommending that a decoration may be given for the Gallipoli campaign and a general service medal to all those who have fought in the various theatres of war, observing that the majority of men who have been fighting for three and a half years have nothing whatever to show for it?

Mr. MACPHERSON

As regards the first part of my hon. and gallant Friend's question I would refer to the oral answers which I gave yesterday to my hon. and gallant Friends the Members for Melton and Clitheroe. The suggestion in the second part has received careful consideration. As regards the last part I would remind my hon. and gallant Friend that men who have served during this War are eligible to receive the following outward and visible signs of service: (a) "Gold stripes" if they have been wounded, (b) "Chevrons" to denote length of service, (c) "Silver War Badges" if they have been discharged as unfit for further military service.
