HC Deb 21 March 1918 vol 104 cc1227-8W
Major ASTOR

asked the Secretary for Scotland whether he will state the number of maternity cases which were provided with treatment under the Notification of Births (Extension) Act, 1915, during 1917?

Mr. MUNRO

I regret I am unable to give the information desired, and it is doubtful if reliable figures could be obtained.

Major ASTOR

asked the Secretary for Scotland whether he will state how much money has been spent during the year 1917 in providing treatment under the Notification of Births (Extension) Act, 1915?

Mr. MUNRO

I regret that this information is not available. For the local financial year ending May, 1917, expenditure, so far as claimable against the maternity and child welfare Grant, may be estimated at £10,300. The actual expenditure, no doubt, exceeded this figure.

Major ASTOR

asked the Secretary for Scotland how many local authorities have in operation schemes for providing treatment for mothers and young children under the Notification of Births (Extension) Act, 1915: and whether he will state how many local authorities have no such scheme in operation?

Mr. MUNRO

Schemes have been sanctioned for fifty-three local authorities. Fourteen other local authorities have schemes in operation which have not yet been formally sanctioned. Two hundred and forty-three local authorities have no scheme in operation, but a considerable number of these local authorities are in communication with the Local Government Board for Scotland with a view to submitting schemes for approval.
