HC Deb 21 March 1918 vol 104 cc1192-3W
Captain WRIGHT

asked the President of the Board of Agriculture if he will ascertain from the Wheat Commission if, with a view to increasing the supply of offals for feeding pigs and poultry, the percentage of millers' offals may, concurrently with an increase of the supplies of wheat imported and home grown, be increased; and, in the meantime, what crops does he recommend should be grown by way of village communal supply or privately for the feeding of pigs?

Mr. PROTHERO

The percentage of extraction of flour from wheat will be reduced as soon as the position in regard to the supply of wheat and other cereals warrants such a change. A corresponding increase in the supply of millers' offals would follow. When pig clubs or private persons are able to cultivate grassland under the terms of the concession recently announced they may be recommended to grow barley and dredge-corn, and, later, artichokes or sunflowers for the feeding of their pigs and poultry.
