HC Deb 20 March 1917 vol 92 c52W
Mr. ANDERSON

asked the Postmaster-General whether his Department has decided in the case of Post Office officials who are wives of the men serving with the Colours to deduct from their present allowance an amount equivalent to the recent increases granted by the War Office to these women in respect of their children; whether he has considered the example thus set to private employers of labour, who by reducing wages could take away the full benefit of any increase in separation allowance; and whether he will take steps immediately to remedy this?

Mr. ILLINGWORTH

I understand the hon. Member to suggest that the wages of soldiers' wives who are acting as temporary servants of the Post Office have been reduced because their "separation" allowances have been increased. I can hardly imagine that such a thing can have been done, and I shall be much obliged to the hon. Member if he will give me the particulars of any case which has been brought before him.
