HC Deb 20 March 1917 vol 92 cc52-4W
Mr. DUFFY

asked the Vice-President of the Department of Agriculture (Ireland) whether he received a copy of a resolution passed by the Loughrea Rural District Council having reference to the establish- merit of a limekiln on the lands of the Department at Athenry; is he aware that the farmers of the district suffer a great disadvantage in not having lime to purchase; and, seeing that the district council invites the assistance of the Department of Agriculture to provide lime for the agriculturists of the district, what steps does he propose to take in the matter?

Mr. DUKE

The Department of Agriculture have received the resolution referred to, and they inform me that no difficulty has been experienced in obtaining supplies of lime for the Department's station at Athenry from local kilns. It is not intended to erect a limekiln on the Department's farm, as it is considered that the matter is one which may well be left to private enterprise.
