HC Deb 21 February 1917 vol 90 cc1350-1W
Commander WEDGWOOD

asked the Secretary of State for India whether commissions in the new Indian Home Defence Force will be granted to natives of India?

Mr. CHAMBERLAIN

I telegraphed to the Viceroy to inquire what is proposed by the Government of India in this matter. He replies that it is intended that in the Indian units of the new Indian force Indians will be eligible for commissions under the Indian Army Act as soon as they are qualified for the same.
