HC Deb 21 February 1917 vol 90 c1350W
Sir D. GODDARD

asked the President of the Board of Education what is being done by the Board of Education to increase the income of certificated teachers in public elementary schools during the War?

Mr. HERBERT FISHER

I would refer the hon. Member to the answer which I gave on Monday last to the hon. Member for Hanley, a copy of which I am sending him.

Mr. THOMAS-STANFORD

asked the President of the Board of Education, whether, in view of the inadequacy under present conditions of the salaries paid to teachers, he will consider the advisability of a grant being made to local education authorities to assist them in meeting the reasonable claims of the teachers on the lines recommended by their national union?

Mr. FISHER

I would refer the hon. Member to the answer given to the question asked me on the 15th February by the hon. Member for the Berwick Division of Northumberland, a copy of which I am sending him.
