§ Mr. FORSTERI have already informed my hon. and gallant Friend as to the first part of the question. As regards the second part, I invited my hon. and gallant Friend on the 4th of December to give me details of the case he had in mind, but I do not trace their receipt. I may say, however, that a man with the acting rank of sergeant is liable to revert to his substantive rank, if he becomes surplus to the establishment. The substantive rank of a lance-corporal is private, and I do not understand how a man so situated came to rejoin as sergeant.
