HC Deb 02 April 1917 vol 92 c926W
Mr. MARTIN

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Food whether he is aware that the present Regulations as to courses at meals enable hotel keepers to make undue profits; and whether he will consider making a Regulation fixing the maximum price of table d'hôte meals, allowing the hotel keeper to provide whatever he likes, not exceeding the limits fixed by the Regulation, and leaving it to competition to force the hotel keeper to give the customers value for his money?

Captain BATHURST

I am not aware that the present Regulations as to courses at meals have increased the profits of hotel keepers. The proposal to fix a regulation price for table d'hôte meals has been considered, but it is not thought to be a satisfactory method of securing economy in food.
