HC Deb 02 April 1917 vol 92 cc925-6W
Mr. W. THORNE

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Food whether he is aware that on the 29th March in several shops in Smithfield Market there were River Plate lambs and legs which had been held up in store in Great Britain four, six, eight, and even more months; and whether he can state the result of his inquiries with the cold storage companies as to the hold-up of River Plate sheep and lambs?

Captain BATHURST

I am informed that between 8,000 and 9,000 River Plate carcases were removed from cold storage last month, and that these were originally imported about six months ago. I understand that there are only about 300 River Plate carcases in cold storage at the present time. I have not yet completed my inquiries in reference to the cold storage of imported meat.
