HC Deb 02 April 1917 vol 92 c926W
Colonel Sir M. WILSON

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Food whether, in view of the hardship inflicted upon the poor by the scarcity and high price of provisions, he will take immediate steps to arrange with the municipalities in the East End of London for a system of communal kitchens?

Captain BATHURST

A certain number of communal kitchens are already in existence and steps are being taken through the National War Savings Committee to develop these institutions. Communications on this subject are also being addressed to the municipalities. It is intended further to establish a model kitchen in central London shortly, where practical demonstrations in food economy can be given.
