Mr. CATHCART WASONasked the President of the Board of Education if his attention has been called to the desirability of making provision for the education of the sons of officers by permitting governing bodies to set aside a number of scholarships for their benefit without competition?
§ Mr. HERBERT LEWISThe Board are aware that at least one of the great public schools has instituted special scholarships for sons of members of His Majesty's Forces who have lost their lives in the War, and I need not say that arrangements for this purpose would command the sympathy of the Board. The matter, however, is primarily one for the governing bodies, and my hon. Friend is, of course, aware that in many cases the trusts affecting the endowments are such that they could not be applied in such a manner.
