§ Captain BARNETTasked the Minister of Munitions in how many instances licensed premises have been entirely closed by order of the Central Control Board (Liquor Traffic) after the payment of fines for breach of the Board's Orders, the periods-for which they have been closed, and the licensing divisions in which such premises are situate; and whether he is aware that the effect of the closing of such licensed premises is to punish persons twice for the same offence?
§ Dr. ADDISONThe Central Control Board have issued Orders closing licensed premises for the sale and supply of intoxicating liquor in fifty cases. Such an Order is only made when it appears to the Board necessary for the purpose of the control of the sale and supply of intoxicating liquor in the area. We are informed that the Board's action has had a most salutary effect. In these cases, it is the Board's practice to close the premises for the remainder of the licensing year current at the date of the Order. I am sending the hon. Member a list of the following licensing divisions in which the houses are-situated:

In England and Wales. The City of London; the Finsbury, Holborn, St. James's, and Tower (2) Petty Sessional Divisions of the Metropolis; the Boroughs-of Beverley, Carlisle, Doncaster, Leamington, Liverpool (2), Merthyr Tydvil, Plymouth, and Sheffield (2); and the Petty Sessional Divisions of Chester-le-Street (Durham), Neath (Glamorgan), South Holderness (Yorks, East Riding), South Lonsdale (Lancashire), and Staincross (Yorks, West Riding) (2).
1235WIn Scotland. The Burghs of Aberdeen, Arbroath, Banff, Coatbridge (2), Dundee (4), Edinburgh (4), Glasgow (6), Greenock, Irvine, Leith and Sterling; and the County Licensing Districts of Lockerbie (Dumfries), Middle Ward (Lanark) (3), and Stirling (County).
