HC Deb 21 November 1916 vol 87 cc1253-4W
Mr. T. WILSON

asked the President of the Board of Trade if he will state the quantity of intoxicating liquor exported to France during the twelve months ending, 30th September, 1916, separating the quantity exported for use by the Army and the quantity exported to private firms?

Mr. PRETYMAN

The quantities of alcoholic liquors registered as exported from the United Kingdom to France during the twelve months ended 30th September, 1916, were: Beer and ale, 289,350 barrels of 36 gallons; spirits, 323,562 proof gallons; and wine, 95,208 gallons. This includes the quantities exported for canteen contractors, and no doubt a large proportion of it was for the use of the troops, but the figures do not include goods shipped for the Army or Navy by His Majesty's Government, as to the quantities of which I have no information.
