HC Deb 09 March 1916 vol 80 c1747W
Mr. LUNDON

asked the President of the Board of Trade if he can hold out any hope for a reduction in the near future in the price of meat; and if he will say if the Government have entered into any contracts with the Argentine and other South American countries for the sale of all beef killed in those countries to England?

Mr. RUNCIMAN

The situation with regard to the price of meat is being very carefully watched, but I am not in a position to make any forecast as to the future. I have informed the House from time to time of the action taken by the Government in the matter of supplies of frozen meat, but I do not think it expedient to give details of the contracts entered into.
