HC Deb 26 November 1914 vol 68 c1331W
Sir JOHN HARMOOD-BANNER

asked the Postmaster-General whether telephones fixed up at Red. Cross hospitals where wounded soldiers are being attended to are in all cases charged at full tariff rates; and, if so, whether he would take into consideration the circumstances of Red Cross hospitals, such as the one at Lymm, Cheshire, where wounded soldiers are attended to by three local doctors; is he aware that it is essential to have a telephone for proper attention to their wants; and whether, in all cases of Red Cross hospitals, seeing that they are carried on by voluntary contributions, he will instruct the officials of the Post Office to make no charge?

Mr. HOBHOUSE

Under arrangements made with the War Office, telephones are being installed at the public cost at Red Cross hospitals where telephonic facilities are not already available. I will make inquiry about the hospital at Lymm, Cheshire. Any applications for such telephones should be addressed by letter or telegram to the Director of Army Signals (Home Defence) at the General Post Office.
