HC Deb 12 February 1914 vol 58 c346W
Mr. WALTER GUINNESS

asked the Under-Secretary for India, whether the peasant proprietors of the village of Dokoha, in the Punjab, formerly owned about 1,130 acres of land, but have since been deprived of all but 325 acres, owing chiefly to the foundation of the cantonments of Jullundur, and more recently to public needs such as camping grounds, roads, and railway lines; and whether, in view of the fact that no compensation was paid to the villagers for over 700 acres of land originally taken for public purposes, the Government will now provide them with other land equivalent in value to that of which they have been deprived?

Mr. MONTAGU

The Secretary of State will make inquiries as to the allegations made in the hon. Member's question.
