asked the Secretary of State for War what are the total sums spent on new rifle ranges during the past five years; and where such ranges are situated?

The following information excludes all provision for miniature and thirty yards ranges. As regards the Regulars and Special Reserve, a sum of £26,547 has been spent on the following new ranges:—

  • Brampton Wood, near Huntingdon.
  • Buttevant, Cork.
  • Kilroot, Antrim.
  • Limerick.
  • Purfleet, Essex.
A large new range is at the present time under construction at Rainham. A considerable sum has also been spent on the extension and improvement of the older ranges. As regards the Territorial force, a sum of £66,901 has been spent on the following new ranges:—

In addition a sum of £87,845 has been spent on the acquisition of an existing range at Altcar. In addition to these ranges a large area has been leased at Ponteland, near Newcastle.
