§ Mr. HALDANEAll these commissions were commissions in the full acceptance of the term. Two hundred were granted for quarter-masters and riding-masters, who were given honorary rank under the Royal Warrant for Pay, etc., as their form of commission confers no rankper se. Honorary rank may be taken to mean rank which is not executive, but which confers the advantages of precedence, etc., referred to in paragraph 229 of the King's Regulations.
