HC Deb 04 April 1911 vol 23 cc2150-1W
Mr. FFRENCH

asked the Chief Secretary whether as Carne, South Wexford, was once an important fishing station, and as several fishermen remain in the neighbourhood still, he will recommend the Development Commissioners to make inquiries as regards the feasibility of repairing Carne pier?

Mr. BIRRELL

If an application for funds for the repair of Carne Pier be made to the Treasury in accordance with the provisions of the Development and Road Improvement Funds Act, 1909, it will be recommended by the Department of Agriculture in Ireland. The measure of support, however, which they can give to the project must only be relative to that which they will give to the claims of other cases where expenditure in the interests of the fisheries is more urgently required.
