HC Deb 04 April 1911 vol 23 c2150W
Mr. FFRENCH

asked the Chief Secretary whether the Irish Board of Agriculture will consider the advisability of encouraging the growth of sugar-beet by giving prizes for the best crops of a specified area grown by farmers?

Mr. BIRRELL

As the Department of Agriculture do not believe that in existing circumstances beet can be grown as profitably as other root crops in Ireland they are not prepared to give prizes as suggested.
