FARRELLasked the Chief Secretary if he will state what action the Land Commission propose to take in the case of Patrick Donohoe, Killasarma, county Longford, a tenant on the estate of Mr. Richard Davoren, who, when he had his application for a fair rent being fixed down for hearing before County Court Judge Curran, was barred of a hearing by the action of the landlord in serving him with a six months' notice to quit under Section 7 of the Act of 1887; and whether any action will be taken to determine the rent in order to give this man some relief or, in the alternative, will the offer of the Commissioners to purchase the entire property of Mr. Davoren be extended so as to include this man?
§ Mr. BIRRELLThe Land Commission have no information as to what is said to have occurred in the county court, but from their records it appears that a judicial rent was fixed for a first term in respect of Patrick Donohoe's holding in February, 1892, and that in October, 1905, when the application by the same tenant came before the Sub-Commission to have 761W the rent fixed for a second term the application was struck out owing to the nonappearance of either landlord or tenant. The Estates Commissioners are purchasing the Davoren estate, including Patrick Donohoe's holding. If the sale to the Commissioners is concluded the tenant in question, if then in occupation, will be afforded an opportunity of purchasing his holding.
