HC Deb 04 November 1909 vol 12 c2151W
Mr. DELANY

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether a memorial has been forwarded to the board of directors of the Great Southern and Western Railway (Ireland) from residents and business men in and around Borris-in-Ossory, Queen's County, asking that a railway station should be provided for their accommodation; whether he is aware that the Borris-in-Ossory traders have to cart their goods by road from Ballybrophy, a distance of three and a half miles, and that there is no railway station between Ballybrophy and Roscrea, a distance of ten miles; and can he say whether obligations were placed upon the Great Southern and Western Railway Company, when compulsorily acquiring land at Borris-in-Ossory, for the purpose of providing railway station accommodation for the town, and that those obligations should be discharged within a reasonable time?

Mr. CHURCHILL

I have not seen the memorial referred to, and I am not aware that there is any statutory obligation on the company to provide a station at Borris-in-Ossory. The distances stated in the question are, I believe, approximately correct.
