HC Deb 04 November 1909 vol 12 c2148W
Mr. VINCENT KENNEDY

asked the Chief Secretary if he will state how many evicted tenants still remain to be dealt with in county Cavan; will, he give the names of those who have been rejected; are there any inspectors dealing with evicted tenants' claims working in Cavan; and, if so, what are their names and addresses?

Mr. BIRRELL

The Estates Commissioners inform me that 73 county Cavan evicted tenants or their representatives have been reinstated or provided with new holdings, and that the names of 37 others have been noted for consideration in the allotment of such untenanted land as the Commissioners may acquire under the Irish Land Act, 1903, and the Evicted Tenants Act. It would not be in the public interest to give the names of the applicants in whose cases the Commissioners have decided to take no action. No fixed staff of inspectors is assigned to the county Cavan.

Mr. VINCENT KENNEDY

asked the Chief Secretary if he will state what steps have been taken, what progress made, and what prospect there is of the following lands being acquired under the Evicted Tenants Acts with regard to which the Estates Commissioners were put in motion as far back as 13th March last, namely, Drumlane Farm, Ture, Slievebrickan, Macken, and Stranadara, all in the county Cavan?

Mr. BIRRELL

As I have already informed the hon. Member in reply to a question asked by him on 28th June last, the Estates Commissioners cannot, from the particulars given, identify the lands referred to as pending for sale before them.
