HC Deb 04 May 1909 vol 4 cc1021-2W
Mr. J. P. FARRELL

asked the Chief Secretary whether it is intended that the provisions in the Land Bill dealing with future tenants shall apply to the case of tenants who, under duress of eviction or threatened eviction, have been recently compelled to enter into agreemnts with, their landlords which would prevent them availing of the Act of 1881?

Mr. BIRRELL

The provisions of the Bill, as introduced, apply to every case in which a tenancy, which gave the right to have a fair rent fixed, has been determined, and a new tenancy created in the same tenant, debarring him from the right of having a fair rent fixed. Any clause or provision in the new contract of tenancy which prohibits the tenant from applying to have a fair rent fixed is declared to be void.
