HC Deb 04 May 1909 vol 4 c1023W
Mr. DEVLIN

asked the Chief Secretary of Ireland whether his attention has been called to the statement made by Mr. Spiller, the prosecuting solicitor, at the Children's Court, held in Belfast on 7th April, to the effect that if additional industrial school accommodation were not provided in Ireland the Children Act would become a failure there; and whether he contemplated taking any steps for the provision of the additional accommodation required?

Mr. BIRRELL

My attention has been drawn to a newspaper report of this gentleman's observations to the effect stated in the question. Further experience of the working of the Act will be necessary before it is possible to say what additional accommodation, if any, will be required, or how such accommodation should be provided, whether in day schools or otherwise.
