HC Deb 04 May 1909 vol 4 cc1020-1W
Mr. J. P. FARRELL

asked the Chief Secretary when a reply may be expected by the Estates Commissioners to their demand for compulsory sale of untenanted lands on the Douglas estate; whether the time has elapsed for the hearing of the landlord's appeal; why it has not been disposed of; and what is the cause of the delay?

Mr. BIRRELL

The Estates Commissioners have published a notice in the "Dublin Gazette" of their intention to acquire these lands under the Evicted Tenants Act with a view to providing holdings for evicted tenants, but the lands cannot be acquired until the prescribed time for appeals has elapsed and the other requirements of the Statute have been complied with.
