asked the Secretary of State for War what is the number of draught horses which a battery of horse and a battery of field artillery should possess to be at war strength what is the number and present supply to them; and what provision is made to ensure an immediate supply of the additional horses to bring batteries up to war strength in case of emergencies?

Mr. HALDANE

The war establishments of draught horses are 134 for a battery of Royal Horse Artillery, and 130 for a battery of Royal Field Artillery. The peace establishments are:—

Royal Horse Artillery—higher establishment 62
Royal Horse Artillery—lower establishment 42
Royal Field Artillery—higher establishment 62
Royal Field Artillery—lower establishment 38
To ensure an immediate supply of horses in case of emergencies over 18,500 draught horses are registered on the reserve of horses.
