HC Deb 02 March 1909 vol 1 c1399W
Mr. SLOAN

asked the Postmaster-General if he is aware that a photograph of a new machine, which was recently introduced into the Plymouth post office for the purpose of post-marking letters and obliterating, was published in the "Western Morning News"; and whether, in view of the fact that a similar machine was installed some months ago in the General Post Office, Belfast, and permission was asked by the "Belfast Evening Telegraph" to photograph it, but the Department refused, he can state why the privilege was extended to Plymouth and refused to Belfast?

Mr. SYDNEY BUXTON

It is not usual, or, as a rule, desirable, to allow members of the public to enter sorting offices, but it is within the discretion of the Postmaster to make an exception to to the rule.
