HC Deb 02 March 1909 vol 1 cc1399-400W
Mr. SLOAN

asked the Postmaster-General whether he is aware that the assistant superintendent and overseers at pesent employed on the postmaster's and superintendent's offices at Belfast have been on the same duties for several years; and if he can state why effect has not been given to the recommendation of the Hobhouse Committee that those duties should rotate amongst the eligible officers?

Mr. SYDNEY BUXTON

Arrangements have been made for periodical changes of officers, employed on the duties referred to, but the exigencies of the work have hitherto prevented the arrangements being brought into operation. Certain changes are, however, being brought into force this month.

Mr. SLOAN

asked the Postmaster-General if he can say when he proposes to dispense with the temporary sorting clerks at present employed in the Belfast Office?

Mr. SYDNEY BUXTON

I hope to be in a position shortly to carry out the revision of the Belfast Indoor force; and it will then be possible to dispense with the temporary sorting clerks referred to.
