HC Deb 25 January 1999 vol 324 cc37-8W
Mr. Lansley

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions for which pesticides he has received unpublished scientific evidence that relates to the introduction of additional financial revenues which would lead to quantified changes in the volume of their use. [66867]

Mr. Meale

The Government have been exploring the possibility of introducing a pesticide tax as a component of its minimisation policy. The consultants engaged on this work have relied on scientific information available in the published literature about the nature of active ingredients when considering various designs for a tax.
