HC Deb 20 March 1997 vol 292 c801W
Mr. Bayley

To ask the Secretary of State for Health how many patients were admitted with fractured neck of femur; what percentage survived beyond 30 days of admission for this condition; and what percentage standardised for age and sex survived beyond 30 days of admission for this condition in each acute NHS trust in each of the last three years. [20867]

Mr. Horam

Standard information on hospital admissions by diagnosis is available in the "Hospital Episodes Statistics" publications, copies of which are available in the Library. As to the additional information requested, mortality in hospital after admission for fractured neck of femur is listed in a set of 14 clinical indicators we are preparing to pilot throughout the national health service. It will not be possible to link hospital admissions with deaths in the community after discharge from hospital for the foreseeable future.

Mr. Bayley
