HC Deb 16 April 1996 vol 275 c443W
Sir Michael Neubert

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what plans he has to ensure there are adequate facilities for river traffic in connection with the millennium exhibition at Greenwich. [25005]

Mr. Norris

It is anticipated that the majority of visitors would use means of transport other than the river and would therefore benefit from the improvements in transport capacity outlined in the answer which I gave to my hon. Friend the Member for Romford (Sir M. Neubert) on 11 March,Official Report, columns 470–71. The development of a river service to the millennium exhibition is a matter for the private sector in conjunctions with the consortium running the exhibition, but the Government would consider the case for contributing to the provision or upgrading of necessary piers in that connection.
