§ Mr. NorrisWhether services are best provided in-house or by contractors is a matter for London Underground to decide. It is currently holding competitions under the private finance initiative for projects involving telecommunications, electricity generation and distribution, and ticketing and revenue collection. Some train and track maintenance work is already carried out by contractors.

§ Mr. NorrisLondon Underground Ltd. staff are carrying out an investigation into the power failure on the underground on 6 April and the lessons to be learned. The investigation is under the direction of Denis Tunnicliffe, LUL's managing director, and its report will be made to the board of London Transport. The report is expected to be completed in early May. Publication of its findings would be a matter for the LT board.
