§ Mr. SweeneyTo ask the Secretary of State for Wales what plans he has for the future of Cadw, Welsh Historic Monuments.
§ Mr. RedwoodCadw, Welsh Historic Monuments, was established as an executive agency within the Welsh Office in April 1991. Following an evaluation and options review, I have decided that Cadw should continue as an executive agency for the next five years. Within this framework, a significant part of Cadw's operations will be subject to market testing, including initially some 115 posts in Cadw's direct labour force. I also intend to consider the feasibility of other methods of increasing the involvement of the private sector in the agency's operations.
