Mr. Redmond

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will list the payments of(a) fees and (b) expenses made to Sir Patrick Sheehy and each other member of the inquiry for producing their report on the police.

Mr. Peter Lloyd

The chairman and members of the inquiry did not accept fees. The costs of travel and subsistence in connection with the inquiry's work were reimbursed.

Mr. Redmond

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what experience of police duties and the management of criminals Sir Patrick Sheehy, Mr. Eric Caines, Mr. Colin Campbell or Mr. John Bullock had prior to being appointed to the Sheehy inquiry.

Mr. Charles Wardle

The chairman and members of the inquiry had no professional experience of working closely with the police service before being appointed. Their experience was of managing large organisations inside and outside the public sector.

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will publish full statistics of the time spent by Sir Patrick Sheehy and each other inquiry member out with beat officers on duty.

A full list of the visits to forces which were undertaken by the inquiry members, which included opportunities to accompany officers on patrol, is provided at appendix I of volume 2 of the inquiry's report —Cm 2280.II.

Mr. Redmond

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether the members of the Sheehy inquiry were provided with the full details of the number of policemen injured on duty.
