To ask the Secretary of State for Health what steps she plans to take to implement the recommendations of the expert maternity group report on "Changing Childbirth".

The report "Changing Childbirth", copies of which are available in the Library, has been the subject of consultation which ended on 29 October. Professional bodies, interested organisations and the national health service were invited to submit written comments. These are being given careful consideration in the Department. Action to be taken in the NHS will be notified as soon as Ministers have completed their study of the responses to the report.
