Mr. Llew Smith

To ask the President of the Board of Trade if he will make a statement on the future arrangements for the operation of his Department's environmental helpline at Warren Spring Laboratory following the announcement on 11 May of the closure of the laboratories.

Mr. Eggar

There has been no announcement about the future of Warren Spring Laboratory. My Department's environmental helpline service continues to be available to business callers on 0800 585 794.

Mr. Chris Smith

To ask the President of the Board of Trade in what circumstances Glaxo plc will not have to pay the full agreed price to the Exchequer in respect of its acquisition of the site of the Warren Spring Laboratory at Welwyn.

Mr. Leigh

Glaxo Group Research Ltd. acquired the site of the Warren Spring Laboratory at Stevenage—not Welwyn—on 1 April 1992.The purchase price is payable in instalments, but there are no circumstances in which Glaxo will not have to pay the full agreed price.
