To ask the President of the Board of Trade what action he has taken in response to the request made in the 22nd report of the Select Committee on European Legislation, HC79-xxii, of 10 March, in regard to explanatory memorandum 4140/93 on Euratom safeguards, for a fuller explanation of the background to and reasons for the expected increased costs for the safeguarding of United Kingdom nuclear sites and an assessment of the reaction of nuclear business interests to the proposals for the submission of detailed design information to be sought.

A response to the request of the Select Committee on European Legislation in regard to explanatory memorandum 4140/93 will be made when the final text of the proposed amendment to Commission regulation (Euratom) No. 3227/76 is available.
