22. Mr. Robert HughesTo ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what steps he is taking at the United Nations Security Council to support the Government of Angola.
§ Mr. Lennox-BoydOn 29 January, the United Nations Security Council adopted resolution 804 which, among other things, calls on member states to render economic and technical assistance to the Government of Angola for reconstruction and development.
§ Mr. MeacherTo ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what representations he has made to the leaders of UNITA since the beginning of 1993; and what was their response.
§ Mr. Lennox-BoydWe were actively involved in United Nations Security Council resolution 804 of 29 January and the EC statement on Angola of 17 February, which condemn UNITA's initial rejection of the results of the elections of 29–30 September 1992 and call for a ceasefire and dialogue between the Government of Angola and UNITA. Officials, including our outgoing ambassador, have reinforced this message with the UNITA office in London.
