Mr. Viggers

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what would be the cost to Her Majesty's Government of raising henceforth the service retired pay of those servicemen who retired between 1950 and 1959, inclusive, to the level of the 1960 pension code.

Mr. Viggers

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what would be the cost to Her Majesty's Government of raising henceforth the forces family pensions and attributable forces family pensions of widows of servicemen who retired or died between 1950 and 1959, inclusive, to the level of widows of servicemen who retired under the 1960 pension code.

Mr. Archie Hamilton

The 1960 pension code is applicable only to officers and their dependants. It is estimated that the cost of increasing the service retired pay of officers would be in the region of £6 million to £7 million per annum and that the cost of increasing the pension payable to widows would be in the region of £2 million to £2.5 million per annum.
