To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a statement on the current situation in Angola.

Mr. Lennox-Boyd

The United Nations is continuing its efforts to secure full implementation of the Bicesse peace accords. We strongly support these efforts and deplore the recent violence in Lubango and elsewhere in Angola. Dialogue between the government of Angola and UNITA based on respect for the Bicesse accords and the outcome of the elections of 29 and 30 September is now essential if progress is to be made towards peace and democracy in Angola.

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what is the current state of relations between Her Majesty's Government and Angola; and if he will make a statement.

We have a good working relationship with the Government of the Republic of Angola.
