§ Sir Ralph HowellTo ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what was the change in cereal production between 1992 and 1993 expressed as a tonnage and in percentage terms in each European Union country and in the European Union as a whole.
§ Mr. JackThe information requested is given in the table. It should be emphasised that 1993 figures in particular are only provisional at this stage.
§ Mr. JackThe table shows figures for agricultural gross product; the total imports to the United Kingdom of food, feed and drink, and the percentage of self-sufficiency of the United Kingdom in food and feed. The value of both imports and exports of cereals is also shown, but it has not been possible to include the element for imports of cereal substitutes in this reply. I shall write to my hon. Friend shortly with further details.
No statistics are available on self-sufficiency in cereal and cereal substitutes, but usage of cereals is known, and statistics on this are included in the final column of the table.
